REMEMBERING OUR MILITARY HEROES

Remembering Our Military Heroes

America has had only 9 Military Officers with the rank of 5 Star. Four of the 9 were Navy Fleet Admirals, the other 5 were Army Generals. One of those 5 was the only Officer ever to achieve the 5-star Rank in 2 branches of the military. Another 1 of those 5 was also the 1st Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The last living 5 Star Officer died on April 8, 1981. The rank was created in December of 1944, in order to elevate American Officers who commanded Allied troops in World War II. Seven of the 9 were conferred with the 5th Star in that month. The 8th Officer achieved his 5th Star 1 year later in December of 1945. Only once was the 5th Star awarded at a time other than World War II. Only 1 of the 9 did not graduate from one of the United States Service Academies.

Tomorrow, May 31, 2021, is Memorial Day and we will identify these courageous, heroic Officers and include some more interesting facts about them. We honor their service and the sacrifices of the brave men and women who gave their ** “last full measure of devotion."
