BEAT THE HEAT THIS SUMMER

We are in summer (as defined as in post-Memorial Day), although the official season is still about 3 weeks away. The most enjoyable activities of summer like swimming, boating, fishing and hiking, are pretty much all outdoor adventures that will expose you to lots of sunshine and hot temperatures.

Your body has its own air conditioning system, otherwise known as the skin, which works by producing sweat filled with sodium and chloride that cools you off by evaporating. In high humidity the atmosphere doesn’t have “room” for any more moisture so it just stays on your hot, sticky body.  Prolonged perspiration will also remove too much sodium and chloride, also known as electrolytes, which your body needs for a whole lot of other life-sustaining processes.
